Ubuntu...

Ubuntu...it's an ancient african word which means humanity towards others". It another linux variant. Ubuntu is similar to Knoppix which can run "live" from your cd-rom. Unfortunately, it's a bit dispointing because the player included in Ubuntu can't play the mp3s from my hard disk. I can't setup the network connection to the Internet. The desktop looks clean and simple . It have task bars located at the top and the bottom of the screen.

"You are legally entitled and encouraged to copy, share, and redistribute this CD, for yourself and your friends. Share the spirit of Ubuntu!" taken from the cd cover.

Sorry to hear you've not got on with the Ubuntu or Knoppix CDs. If you're still looking for a good liveCD version of linux, you could try SUSE linux (http://www.suse.com/), which has a LiveCD and LiveDVD available at http://www.suse.com/us/private/download/ftp/live_eval_int.html
If you want the CD versions, try replaceding "LiveDVD" in the download URL with "LiveCD-Gnome" or "LiveCD-KDE" depending on which desktop you want. Personally, I'd recommend KDE :-)
I find the SUSE version very good, although I moved to a full hard-disk installation a while ago.

Have fun!
